Lab · Tools for DJs

Your Traktor mapping, made to measure.

The Lab is the part of the studio that builds tools for DJs. Its first service is a precise one: write your Xone:K3's Traktor mapping around the way you mix, and hand you a file ready to import.

The custom mapping

A controller with its factory mapping does what the manufacturer planned. A custom mapping does what you do.

What it includes

  • A conversation to understand how you mix: number of decks, hotcues, loops, effects
  • A layout fitted to your gear: a Xone:K3 on its own, or alongside a Xone:96 mixer that takes care of the mixing
  • The controller's layers put to use, with their light-feedback colours
  • A file ready to import into Traktor, and the steps to import it
  • One round of adjustments after your first sessions

How it works

  1. 1. You describe

By email: your gear, your Traktor version, and what you want under your fingers.

  2. 2. We design

You get a proposed layout, with its price. Nothing is produced before you agree.

  3. 3. You import

You receive the file, to import into Traktor: Preferences, then Controller Manager, then Import.

The Lab's tools

What we build for our own setups, we publish. The code is open: you can read it, use it, or leave the work to us.

tsi-forge Open source

The tool that writes the mappings. It plugs into an AI assistant: you describe the mapping in plain language, it produces the file, checked before it is written.

microdecks Experimental

A DJ application that runs in the browser. It is controlled with a Xone:K3, a Traktor Kontrol X1 MK3 or a Xone:96 mixer, and takes several controllers at once. With the Xone:96, each deck plays to its own channel and the mixing happens on the hardware. A prototype: two decks, EQ and crossfader, no effects or sync yet.

Frequently asked questions

Which version of Traktor?

Traktor Pro 3 is supported today. Traktor Pro 4 support is in the works: if you are on Pro 4, write to us anyway and we will tell you where things stand.

What about a Xone:96?

The Xone:96 is a mixer: when it is there, it handles volumes and EQ, and the K3 is free for the rest, hotcues, loops, effects. The K3 mapping is designed accordingly, and it is not the same as for a K3 on its own.

What about another controller?

The Traktor Kontrol X1 MK3 is in the works. For others, not for now: every controller has its own control map, and we only deliver what we have been able to check. Tell us which one you use: that is what will decide the one after.

Can I do it myself?

Yes. tsi-forge is free and open: plugged into a compatible AI assistant, it lets you describe your mapping and get the file yourself. The custom service is for those who would rather have it done for them.

Why does a web studio build tools for DJs?

Because it is the same craft: understand a closed tool, then make it work with others. The Lab is where we practise it, on ground we know first-hand.
