tsi-forge
An open-source tool that puts AI to work on a format nobody had documented
tsi-forge is Klamath Studio's open-source tool for DJs: describe in plain language how you want your controller set up, and leave with the complete file, ready to import. The tool currently covers Allen & Heath's Xone:K3 controller, used on its own or alongside the Xone:96 mixer, and the Traktor Pro 3 DJ software.
The problem it started from
A DJ who plugs a controller into Traktor has to tell the software what every button and every knob does, deck by deck. That setup is saved in a closed file format the publisher has never documented. Doing it by hand means hours in a preferences menu, one command after another.
Existing tools let you edit that file, not do the thinking for the DJ: which function on which button, on which layer, with which light feedback.
What we built
We reconstructed the format from real files, until we could read it and write it back identically. On that basis, a precise toolkit: look up the controller's layout, search Traktor's functions, check a mapping, produce the file.
These tools plug into the AI assistant the DJ already uses. They describe what they want, "four decks on the first layer, effects on the second", the assistant uses the tools to assemble the mapping, and the resulting file imports straight into Traktor.
The constraints it meets
Handing a binary file to an AI is risky: a language model is happy to invent, and a single wrong byte makes the file unreadable. The whole point was to leave it the reasoning, and nothing else.
Format reconstructed
No official documentation exists. The file's structure was worked out from real files, then written down.
Exact to the byte
Every reference file, read then written back, comes out identical to the byte. Tests check it, rather than assume it.
The assistant never touches the file
The assistant picks the functions. Writing the file stays a calculation with no randomness: the same request always produces the same file.
Checked before writing
A button assigned twice, an unknown function, a reversed direction: the mapping is checked, and refused if it contains an error.
True to the manufacturer
The controller's layout is checked cell by cell against the manufacturer's official charts.
Free and open
The code is public under a free licence, and the tool calls no paid service: it costs nothing to use.
Playing Traktor on a Xone:K3, on its own or next to a Xone:96? We build your custom mapping, fitted to the way you mix and ready to import.

How we approach a closed tool: understand how it works without a manual, then make it work with AI without ever trusting AI with what has to stay exact.
Having products of our own does not make your project second in line, quite the opposite: we choose our projects so that we can honour them, and an in-house product runs on a rhythm we control, never at the expense of a commitment made.
Your project deserves the same care.
